The sore route is so called because it is likely to leave you pretty sore once finished. The route starts with rolling hills which get progressively harder the further round you go with a 924m of climbing it is not the most demanding of routes but is sure is the prettiest.
Section 1 Tedworth Park to Tedworth Park. 32 miles
The ride starts with a lap of Tedworth Park and heads out towards Bulford past the military shooting ranges where you get great views of Salisbury Plain, on your right. Dropping down into Bulford you can see the Kiwi Hill on the left, a memorial to the Kiwi Soldiers garrisoned after the First World War, it is some 130 metres high and over 1.5 acres in area! A right turn sees you quickly drop down to the Bulford Droveway where herders used to shepherd their sheep to Market in Salisbury halfway down this road you get the option to turn of the road onto Twinge 1 if not then just continue on and turn right and and head up the Avon Valley. This quite road is quite challenging with numerous small inclines and descents. The villages of Figheldean, Netheravon, Enford and Chissenbury are ridden through until you turn right at the end and climb up Rowdens Cleeve and past Trenchard Lines with Upavon airfield on the Right. A rolling couple of miles takes you through to Everleigh home of the haunted Crown Pub, still with gallows out the front, although these days it holds up the pub sign! Left to Collingbourne Ducis followed by a climb up to Ludgershall and descent back into Tidworth and Tedworth Park finally completes the section.
Optional Twinges (Total off road twinges 6.6 miles )
Section 2 Tedworth Park to Tedworth Park. 30 miles
Refreshed again you head out of the park and through Shipton Bellinger a left turn takes you along a beautiful tree lined route towards Thruxton motor racing circuit. Through Fyfield and straight over the road you drop down into Appleshaw and start the climb to Tangley and up to Conholt Hill it is a gradual climb but your legs will feel it come the end! Dropping down Conholt Hill and turning left you pass through the pretty villages of Oxenwood and Marden until a double left where you hit the sharp climb of Wexcomb, a steady ride back through Ludgershall and down to Tedworth Park finally completes the ride. Now you can enjoy some of the hearty range stew and collect your ride certificate. Give yourself a pat on the back, Well done!
